Occipital Nerve Blocks for Riverdale Collision Injuries

Occipital nerve blocks focus on pain linked to nerves at the back of the head. They may fit patients with accident-related headaches, neck pain, or related nerve irritation.

The key decision is whether the symptom pattern matches the treatment area. Our team reviews the injury history, current symptoms, and prior care before recommending a procedure. The service page for occipital nerve blocks explains the treatment itself, while this page focuses on post-procedure concerns for patients in Riverdale.

A patient should report new or worsening dizziness symptoms, unusual bleeding, spreading redness, fever, or worsening pain. We use those details to decide whether further assessment is needed.

  • Review whether the pain pattern reaches the back of the head.
  • Discuss dizziness symptoms and any change after the injection.
  • Check the injection area for bleeding, swelling, redness, or drainage.
  • Bring relevant accident records and prior treatment information.
  • Ask how findings will be recorded for ongoing injury care.

Service Overview

Occipital nerve blocks are injections near nerves at the back of the head that may reduce pain signals.

  • This treatment differs from an epidural steroid injection because it targets occipital nerves rather than spinal spaces.

How We Approach Occipital Nerve Block Decisions

Match the injection to the pain pattern

The first decision is whether symptoms point toward the occipital nerves. This treatment is the wrong fit when the pain source does not match that nerve region.

Explain side effects before treatment

We discuss temporary numbness, bleeding, infection signs, and dizziness symptoms before the procedure. Patients receive a clear basis for deciding what to report.

Keep injury records connected

Our board-certified pain management physicians connect the procedure note with the broader collision injury record and treatment plan.

How Different Injection Options Target Pain

Tracy checked me in. Tony triaged me and Dr Scott took care of me. They made me feel welcome and comfortable from start to finish. I don't think I've ever had a doctor's visit this WONDERFUL! I barely felt a thing and as a person who is terribly afraid of needles, they took all my fears away and provided an excellent experience. Tony plays your favorite music during the procedure and it lasts about one song. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!!

Questions About Side Effects And Treatment Fit

For Occipital Nerve Blocks, what side effects can occur after an occipital nerve block?

Dizziness symptoms can occur after an occipital nerve block, along with temporary numbness, soreness, bleeding, or infection signs. Mild changes may settle, but worsening dizziness, spreading redness, drainage, fever, or severe pain needs medical review. Premier Injury Specialists explains these risks before treatment and documents symptoms reported after the procedure.

How do you check whether this injection fits my headache pattern?

The pain pattern helps determine whether the occipital nerves are involved. We review the accident history, the location of head pain, neck tenderness, and related symptoms. An occipital nerve block may be a poor fit when the pain source points elsewhere. Our team then discusses another treatment option when appropriate.

Which warning signs after treatment need medical attention?

Worsening dizziness, unusual bleeding, spreading redness, drainage, fever, or severe pain needs medical attention. Patients should describe when the change began and whether it is getting worse. We use those details with the treatment record to guide the next evaluation. Urgent symptoms should receive prompt medical care.

When should I request a follow-up after numbness?

Persistent or worsening numbness should prompt a follow-up assessment. Temporary numbness near the treated nerve can occur, but the location and change over time matter. We ask about movement, weakness, pain, and other symptoms before deciding what review is needed. Patients in Riverdale can request care through our collision-injury practice.

Why does the treatment record matter after a car accident?

The treatment record connects the injection, symptoms, findings, and next care decision. Detailed medical documentation helps the patient, medical team, and referring attorney understand what was assessed. We record the collision history, procedure details, reported side effects, and follow-up plan as part of the injury evaluation.

Does a referral or MRI come first for Occipital Nerve Blocks?

Most patients can schedule an evaluation without a referral, and an MRI is not automatically required before the visit. Our team reviews the injury history and available records first. If imaging or another assessment would help, we explain that need during the evaluation. The decision depends on the symptoms and clinical findings.
